burn

i am burning
all the way through
flames course down me

you douse me in water
frantically
desperately

why isn't it working?

my fire is bigger
the more you try
you thought you could save me?

i will burn you too
i will burn all of you

watch you tear your eyes
to find me curling at your hem

suddenly the water turns
away from me -

a mistake

as you are frantically
desperately
trying to put yourself out

i am growing brighter
burning harder
hellfire was all you saw

and yet
enigmatically i blaze
and n your last thoughts you think

"how lucky that i was a chapter
of her story"

as if you were more
than a simple sentence.
