half an orange

i peeled an orange today,
and i saved half
(as i always do)

thinking of you i went
to wrap it up, give
it to you tomorrow

but i’m not going to see you tomorrow
am i? sat on your bed, watching our show,
the orange peel on the floor - the bigger half was always yours.

this time, i ate it.
it tasted like grief and
guilt.
